OBITUARY RETA W KING December 25, 1935 – September 4, 2018 TUSCALOOSA – Reta Wiegand King, of Tuscaloosa, Ala. , was born December 25, 1935 and passed away September 4, 2018. She is preceded in death by her parents, Emlyn and James Wiegand; sister, Becky Wiegand; brother, David Wiegand; and her loving, loyal husband, A.L. King.

Survivors include daughters, Allison King Ellard and Lisa King Robinson of Tuscaloosa Ala. ; brothers, James Mark Wiegand and Daniel Von Wiegand (Karen) of Pittsburgh, Pa. ; grandchildren, Emily Ann Robinson, Jon Wesley Robinson (Kelsey) and Matthew King Ellard all of Tuscaloosa, Ala.

; and five great-grandchildren, Emily, Abigail and Jon King (JW) and Kaden and Seeley (Emily). Reta Gayle Wiegand was born on Christmas Day in 1935. She grew up in Mars, Pennsylvania, as the oldest of five children.

She attended Thiel College where she met and was heavily pursued by “Pinky” aka Al King. After graduation she and Al married and lived in a tiny trailer in her parents’ backyard. They had two beautiful girls, Allison and Lisa, and moved to Mobile, Alabama after Al, who was an agent for the FBI, was assigned to assist in the Civil Rights Movement.

Al’s job eventually moved them to Tuscaloosa, where they called home for the remainder of their lives. Reta worked at Gayfers for thirteen years and loved all of her work friends very much. She was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Residing at 4111 Brookhill Road for nearly 40 years, Reta and Al provided a wonderful life for their girls. That home shared countless memories of laughter and love with neighborhood friends and constant fellowship with family. Holidays were always spent with family gathered together.

Reta could be found making her delicious gravy or meticulously wrapping presents with perfect bows. Summertime was spent poolside…crazy kiddos swimming, grill fired up and all the love anyone could ever need. Reta was soft spoken yet quick witted and prided herself in keeping accurate records with perfect penmanship.

She loved nothing more than her family, especially her grandchildren, Emily, Jon Wesley and Matthew. Reta never missed one of their dance recitals, baseball, soccer, basketball or football games. She also adored her great-grandchildren, Emme, Kaden, Abby, Seeley and Jack.

Those babies could be found loving on her, even up to her last few hours on earth. She passed away peacefully in her sleep, just the way she wanted. A special thank you to the sweet people and neighbors at Pine Valley, the amazing staff of Hospice of West Alabama, Dr. Vaughn for his many, many, many years of care, and to Reta’s angel on earth, Linda Crowell.

On Thursday, September 6, 2018, at 11 a.m., we will celebrate the life of our dear Reta. This informal gathering will be held at Memory Chapel in Tuscaloosa. We are so grateful for the outpouring of love during this time.

Thank you. Flowers may be sent to Memory Chapel and any donations can be made to Hospice of West Alabama in her memory.
