Richard E.”Rick” Erney passed from this life at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018. Rick was born July 12, 1946, in Terre Haute, to Bill Erney and Ethel Brownfield Erney.

Rick was a graduate of Garfield High School and Oakland City University. Rick was a Marine Corps veteran serving from 1965 to 1967 including a tour of duty in Vietnam. Rick was retired from the Terre Haute Police Department after 37 years service.

In the course of his service he held every position from patrolman to Chief of Police. After retiring from police work, Rick was employed by the Vigo County School Corporation and was employed there at the time of his passing. Rick was predeceased by his father and mother.

Surviving is his daughter, Dianna Hough (Tim); grandsons, Scott and Matthew Hough; sister, Suecinda Wallace Andrews; brother, Bill E. Erney (Jane); nephew, James W. Wallace (Ashley); and great-nephew, Kyler Wallace. Rick also was fortunate to have in his life his significant other, Betty Rose Gilbert; best friend, Frank Turchi; and friend, Monty Stillman. Funeral services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept.

29, 2018, at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute. Pastor Jeff Lee will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday, Sept.

29, 2018, from 12 noon until services at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Highland Lawn Cemetery, with military and Terre Haute Police Department rites. Rick was a kind and generous man who will be missed by those who loved him. Online condolences may be made at: www.
