Richard G. “Dick” Speer, Sr., 83, of Conneaut, passed away Sunday evening, September 9, 2018. He was born March 7, 1935 in Conneaut, and was the son of Fred and Leora (Kitchen) Speer. Richard attended Rowe High School and was a member of the National Guard.

He worked for ESAB as a machinist, and enjoyed farming, gardening, Cleveland sports, especially the Indians, being home in his chair reading the paper, and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Janet (Norton) Speer, whom he married July 11, 1959; his daughters Jodi (Mike) Waters of Jefferson, and Shari (Kevin) Powell of Conneaut; his sons Richard “Rick” Speer, Jr., of Conneaut, and Mark Speer of Conneaut; grandchildren Joshua (Erica) Speer, Dustin Speer, Cody Speer, Amanda Speer, Tyler Schaefer, Caitlyn Schaefer, Zachary Waters, and Mitchell Waters; 6 great-grandchildren; and his sister Patricia Chapman of Benton, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson Ryan Powell in 2013; his brothers Francis Speer, and Norman Snow; and his sisters Bette Metcalf, and Dorothy Brady.

Funeral service will be noon, Thursday, September 13, 2018, at the Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, OH, with Pastor Jan Walsh of New Leaf United Methodist Church officiating. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, N. Kingsville, OH. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior from 11:00 AM, until the time of the service at noon.
