Richard Joseph LaFontaine age 83 of Sturgis, Michigan passed away Sunday morning October 28, 2018 at the Heartland Health Care Center in Three Rivers, Michigan. He was born June 9, 1935 in Putnam, Connecticut son of the late Alfred and Laura (Neveu) LaFontaine. Dick resided in Sturgis since 1961 coming from Connecticut.

Following his retirement he worked at the Green Valley Camp Ground in Sturgis for several years. He was a member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis. Dick was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War from 1954-1957 earning the rank of Corporal.

He was a past member of Neuman-Wenzel Post #73 American Legion. He is survived by one daughter: Amy (Ryan) Sybesma of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; two sons: Mark (Annette) LaFontaine of Sturgis and David (Judy Baker) LaFontaine of Colon; seven grandchildren: Justin LaFontaine, Amanda LaFontaine, Michael (Candy) LaFontaine, Dustin Baker, Sabrina Baker, Alleisha Baker and Grant Sybesma; seven great grandchildren: Collin LaFontaine, Emily LaFontaine, Carma LaFontaine, Amber Moyer, Benjamin Schwemer, Kira Schwemer and Hope LaFontaine One sister: Joyce Franks of Sugar Island; sister-in-law: Pat LaFontaine of Hampton, South Carolina and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister and brother-in-law: Joan and Nel Bourdia; one brother: Ronald LaFontaine and brother-in-law: Tom Franks.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331 where a prayer service will begin at 8:00 P.M. Wednesday. Deacon Larry Kasuboski of Holy Angels Catholic will officiate. Full military honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Marine Corp Honor Guard.

In accordance with his wishes cremation will follow the services. The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mr. LaFontaine’s memory consider Heartland Health Care Center, 517 S. Erie St., Three Rivers, MI 49093. The obituary is also at www.
