GLENFIELD-A graveside service with Military Honors for Richard Martin Kapfer, 88, of Glenfield, New York, will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Old Glendale Cemetery with Rev. Bruce W. Chapman officiating. Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.

Richard Martin Kapfer, 88, of Glenfield, New York, passed away peacefully at Lewis County General Hospital with his devoted wife by his side on Sunday, March 18, 2018. Richard was born in Utica, NY on April 27, 1929. A son of the late Frank and Mary (Roberts) Kapfer.

Richard attended Turin Union School. He is a veteran of the Korean Conflict where he served as a member of the U.S. Marine Corp. He was employed at Lyons Falls Pulp and Paper (formally Georgia Pacific) for 40 years as a hardwood operator and served several terms as president of the local United Paper Workers International Union.

Richard loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, sharing his skills of wood working, and enjoyment of snowmobiling and four wheeling. Richard and his wife spent time traveling cross country, enjoying summers at Sand Pond and winters in Zephyrhills, FL. Richard had quite a sweet tooth and loved all of his wife’s home baked goodies.

Richard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lucy (Mealus) Kapfer of Glenfield. They were married October 28th, 1950 at the United Methodist Church in Turin NY with Reverend Straight officiating, in a candlelight service. He is also survived by his children, daughter Judy and husband Michael Ripp, of Lyons Falls, NY, son Dennis and wife Lynne, of Norwich, CT, son Lynn and wife Laurie of Rotterdam, NY and son-in-law Don Fromal of Advance, NC; his grandchildren, Mary Kathryn (Kapfer) and husband Ryan Larmouth, of Mansfield Ma, Brian Fromal and wife Jennifer Deal of Charlotte, NC, Kristen Fromal and husband Eric Ho, of Asheville, NC and Kevin Kapfer of Norwich, CT; great granddaughter Lilah Larmouth and has two more great grandchildren joining the family this summer.

Richard is also survived by his brother, Bill Kapfer of Turin NY and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his loving daughter Linda (Kapfer) Fromal of Advance, NC. Calling hours will be Thursday evening, from 5-8p.m. at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.

The funeral service will be Friday morning at 11am at the funeral home with Reverend Bruce W. Chapman officiating. A reception will immediately follow the funeral service at the 3-G Fire Hall. Spring burial with Military Honors will take place at Old Glendale Cemetery.
