Richard M. Bane, 86, of Gallipolis passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at the Emogene Dolin Hospice House in Huntington, West Virginia. Born December 5, 1931 in Gallia County, Ohio, Richard was the son of the late Charles M. Bane and Marjorie F. Perkins Bane. He graduated from Gallia Academy High School in the Class of 1949.

Richard served his country in the U.S. Army and was a proud veteran of the Korean War, being in Korea on June 25, 1950 when the war started.

He was a member of the VFW Post 4464 and a member of the Morning Dawn Lodge #7 Masonic Lodge for 65 years; he was an avid gardener, known for his tomatoes, strawberries, and watermelons. Richard was a passionate sports fan who enjoyed golfing and played competitive softball into his late 40’s. He also loved the O.S.U. Buckeyes and Marshall Thundering Herd football teams.

Richard is survived by his wife, Juanita Bane of Gallipolis; one daughter Teresa (Mike) Canter of Wheelersburg, Ohio and a son Jeff (Mica) Bane of Oro Valley, Arizona; two grandchildren, Kierstyn Canter of New Albany, Ohio and Meredith Blake of Cave Creek, Arizona; and one great granddaughter, Maribella Blake. In addition to his parents, Charles M. Bane who passed in 1988 and Marjorie F. Perkins Bane who passed in 1990, Richard was preceded in death by his sister, Marian Smith in 2009. Friends may call on Thursday, July 26, 2018 from 7 – 9 p.m. at Willis Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 27, 2018 in St. Nick Cemetery with Pastor Alfred Holley officiating. Military rites will be given at the cemetery by the Gallia County Funeral Detail. Pallbearers will be Dwayne Evans, Jerry Evans, Tom Moore, Dick Brown, Homer Hankins, Don Perkins, and Russell Fellure.
