Richard “Rick” James Martindale September 20, 1954 – October 31, 2018 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Richard “Rick” James Martindale, 64, of Fruitdale, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at the Belle Fourche Healthcare Community following a brief battle with cancer. He was born September 20, 1954 in Belle Fourche to James and Doriene (Fox) Martindale. He grew up in Fruitdale with his sister, Merta “Marty” and he graduated with the class of 1972 at the Belle Fourche High School.

Following high school, he spent a semester at Colorado State University. Then returning home to work at the family Bee Business in Fruitdale where he was a bee keeper. He enjoyed working on cars and riding his motorcycles and he had a passion for music.

Later in life he enjoyed traveling with his mother to Colorado to visit his sister. They would also winter in Las Vegas where he enjoyed golfing and gambling. He often joked that he was a professional gambler.

As he grew older you could most often find Rick at his home in Fruitdale where he was the most comfortable. He spent most of his time around the house gardening, bird watching, wood working and most of all relaxing on his deck with his dog, Max. He was also known to be spotted driving around Fruitdale in one of his classic Volvos or riding his motorcycle.

Rick lived life to its fullest. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Doriene Martindale; his sister, Merta “Marty” Martindale-Hoyer. He is survived by his cousins, Chris (Krinda) Fox of Fruitdale and their children, Owen and Taten Fox; Jesse (Brianne) Fox of Belle Fourche and their daughter, Isla Fox; Tim (Wanda) Fox of Gillette, WY and Kem Cook of California and his beloved dog, Max.

Visitation was Monday, November 5 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Kline Funeral Chapel in Belle Fourche with funeral services Tuesday, November 6 at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Chapel. Interment followed at Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche. The family suggest memorials to the Western Hills Humane Society, 324 Industrial Drive, Spearfish, SD 57783.
