Obituary of Richard Swain Richard E. Swain, 83, Gas City, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in his home at 10:20 a.m. on October 26, 2018. He was born in Gas City on October 2, 1935, to the late Ralph and Wilhelmine (Atkinson) Swain and was a lifelong resident of Gas City. On July 3, 1975, Richard married his wife, Joan Breedlove, and she will greatly miss him.
Richard was a member of Sunnycrest Baptist Church and attended Center Chapel Church the past eight years. He was a life member of Elks Country Club and loved playing golf with his friends and family members. Richard loved being outdoors.
He retired after 38 years as Plant Superintendent at Gen Corp (General Tire). He played softball for General Tire League. He was a hunter and loved going hunting with his boys and other family members.
He really enjoyed his hunting trips to Tennessee and Colorado. One of the highlights of his life was harvesting a Bull Elk with his son, Matthew. He also enjoyed the trips he and Joan took with Sunnycrest Baptist Church.
Richard loved God and his family and was so proud of all of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He had a great love for his dog, Kiala, and his cat, Gabby. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Joan Swain; sons, Rick (Nikki) Swain and Tom (Teresa) Swain; step-daughter, Robin (Ed) Beaty; step-son, Jerry Stewart; grandchildren, Misty (Aaron) Stevens, Chelsea Twigg, Brittany (Kyle) Nelson, Calob Swain, and Heather Swain; step-grandchildren, Nicole (Chad) Ennis, Wesley (Sarah) Thompson, Megan (Randy) Mullenix, Joshua Stewart, Tommy Stewart, and Gabe Shinholt; great-grandchildren, Chloe Stevens, Laynee Stevens, Kyser Twigg, Layton Twigg, Wyatt Nelson, and Walker Nelson; step-great-grandchildren, Haylee Ennis, Jordan Ennis, Dakota Ennis, Mackenzie Mullenix, Abby Mullenix, Andrew Mullenix, and Alisha Mullenix; and brother, John (Barbara) Swain.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his four sons, Brenda (Hughes) Swain; sons, Howard “Howie” Swain and Matthew Swain; brother, Howard (Marjorie) Swain; sisters, Renabella Kiser, Juanita Crouch, and Inez Swain; step-granddaughter, April Shinholt; and step-great-granddaughter, Olivia Fisher. The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Richard’s funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN. Co-officiants will be Pastors Mick Simpkins and Mark Atkinson.
