Mr. Richard Eugene Sims was born on August 31, 1953 in Florence, South Carolina to Harley and Willie Mae Askins Sims. He departed this life on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness. Richard attended the public schools of Florence County.

He served in the United States Marines and received an Honorable Discharge. He was an entrepreneur, owning Rightway Roofing and the 24-7 Store. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilbert Sims and Woodrow Sims; and one sister, Kathy Sims Miller.

Survivors are his wife of 45 years, Annie George Sims; children, Yusuf H. Sims, Rahmaan A. Sims, Rahim M. (Shahara) Sims, Abu-Bakr (Lafonda) Sims, Saaleem QI (Ericka)Sims, Makkah (Charvis) Goodman, Vickie Mcall Harpe; thirty grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his mother, Willie Mae Askins Sims; brothers, Harley Sims, Jr., Sherrieff C. (Louise) Ziyah, Rashead R. Ziyad; sisters, Gloria A. Sims and Earnestine Sims Ellison; two uncles, Ralph Askins and Wilson Simmons; brother-in-law, Larry (Sandra) George; sisters-in-law: Doris (Alphonsa) George Green, Lou E. George, Glenda George, Cathy (Gordon) George Washington and Gloria Douglas Sims; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loved ones and friends.
