RITA A. (Tracey) DEMPSEY, 85, passed away Monday, October 22 at Baystate Medical Center. She was born Jan. 20, 1933 in Westfield to the late Thomas and Katherine (Watkins) Tracey.

She graduated in 1950 from Chester High School and then attended Berkshire Business College in 1951 for Secretary Studies. Rita worked at MassMutual Insurance Company as a Senior Account Administrator before her retirement. She was loved by family and all who knew her and came to know her and was known for her dry wit and “Yankee” sense of humor, having you laughing, while she herself never cracked a smile.

Rita enjoyed sewing, knitting, and reading with her favorite thing being decorating for holidays, especially Christmas. She also loved traveling and playing golf. Rita loved cats and her dear cat “Sunshine” being her best friend and companion of late.

Rita volunteered at her Church and was on the Senior Club Committee, as well as supporting the Boy Scouts of America Troop #0570. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the VFW for Post #6714 as well as other organizations in the community. Rita was predeceased by her brother Michael in 1957 and her husband George in 2010.

Rita leaves her cousins; Grace Lombardi of Dalton, Eleanor Rosier and Julie Taylor of Pittsfield, and Judy Sweener of Fla. , along with many extended family members. She also leaves her sister-in-law Helen Duquette of Spfld.

and nephews James R., Robert F. and nieces Mary F. Duquette and Michelle E. Ryan as well as four great-nephews. She also leaves behind many friends and neighbors and her good friend Nancy Dell’Aquila (and family). Calling hours will be WEDS OCT 31st, from 9:30-11:00AM at TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield St., West Sprfld.

, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM at St. Thomas Church, 74 Pine St. West Sprfld. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam.
