Joseph R. Cotton, 87, passed away Thursday October 4, 2018 at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Born in Newton, March 5, 1931, he was the son of the late John and Louise (Terrio) Cotton. He was a longtime resident of West Springfield and a graduate of West Springfield High School.

Joe owned and operated the iconic Cotton’s Mobil in West Springfield for almost three decades. He was a US Army veteran during the Korean War and later the National Guard. Joe volunteered for many years after retirement at the Springfield Armory and was selected volunteer of the year.

He was a longtime member of the West Springfield VFW and ran their military honors program and was a member and officer of the Pioneer Valley Sportsmans Club. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Doris E (Toon) Cotton. He leaves his loving daughters, Linda Ronan and her husband Bob of Hopkinton, and JoAnne Kallenbach and her husband Scott of Stafford Springs, CT, his beloved grandchildren, Michael and Katherine Ronan and Brandon and Marissa Kallenbach.

He was predeceased by his brother John and sister Anna and leaves several nieces and a nephew. The funeral will be held on Saturday, 10/13 at 10am at the TOOMEY-OBRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield St., West Springfield, MA followed by the burial at Paucatuck Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday, 10/12 from 4 – 7pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holyoke Soldiers Home, 110 Cherry St., Holyoke, MA 01040.
