Obituary for Rita P Smith Rita P. Smith, 94, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, November 1, 2018, at the University Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born January 5, 1924 in Vincennes, Indiana to the late Marie and William DeJean. Rita graduated from Memorial High School in 1941.
She was a Charter Member of Nativity Catholic Church where she sang in the choir for many years. Rita enjoyed her roses, playing the piano, crocheting and her bridge club. Most of all, Rita enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Rita is survived by her children, Kenneth (Carol) Smith of Tell City, Gerald (Linda) Smith of Evansville, Robert (Cindy) Smith of New Harmony, Kathleen (Gus) Spranaitis of St. Louis, MO, Thomas (Terri) Smith of Evansville, Stephen (Missy) Smith of Round Rock, TX; son-in-law Philip Gannam of Palos Verdes Estates, CA; daughter in law, Lynn Smith of Toledo, OH; 23 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren; sister, Ann Scheitlin of Evansville; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph E. Smith; daughter, Rita Ann Gannam and son, Ronald J. Smith. Visitation will be 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm Thursday, November 8, 2018, at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel 800 S. Hebron Ave.
, Evansville. Visitation will continue Friday, November 9, 2018, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, at University Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 1236 Lincoln Ave. Evansville, IN.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am with Father Ted Tempel officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to Reitz Memorial High School, 1500 Lincoln Ave.
