Obituary for Robert A. Garrett Robert A. Garrett, 89, of Minden passed away on May 3, 2018 at Aksarben Village Retirement Home in Omaha. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden with the Rev. Donald Hunzeker officiating.

Private family interment will be held prior to services at the Minden Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Bob was born on September 14, 1928 in Tabor, Iowa to Elmer Addison and Alta Ruth (Timson) Garrett.

He attended elementary and high schools in Tabor after which he attended Tarkio College in Tarkio, Missouri. In 1948 Bob came to Minden and became an employee of Trico Feed Mills. On October 29, 1950 he was united in marriage to Shirley Rasmussen at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden.

Their three children are Georgette Jean, Timson Ross, and Brent Addison. Bob continued to work in the agricultural field as manager of alfalfa dehydrating plants in Audubon, Iowa and Burlington, Iowa and manager of Honegger Feed in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1964 the family returned to Minden, where Bob was manager of Trico Feed Mills.

Then in 1973 he established the Garrett Agency and began farming. He continued with his business and farming until a heart attack forced his retirement in 2017. Bob was very active in community affairs.

He was a Boy Scout leader, a member of the Airport Authority, past member and president of Optimists, and a member and past president of the Bethany Lutheran Church Council. He served thirty years on the Kearny County Hospital board, thirty-two years on the board of directors of the First Bank and Trust, and thirty-four years on the board of the Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District. Highlights of his life were earning his pilot’s license and flying, fifty-three years of season tickets to the Husker football games and his farming.

Survivors are: his wife, Shirley of Minden, daughter, Georgette Garrett Smith and husband Charles Smith of Omaha, sons, Timson and his wife Lezlie of Loveland, Colorado, and Brent and his wife Amy of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren, Stephanie Smith Cota and husband David Cota of Omaha, Kimberly Smith Weiss and husband Joshua Weiss of Omaha, Tyson Garrett and his wife Kaysa of Fort Collins, Colorado, Trevor Garrett and his wife Anne of Greeley, Colorado and Kellie Garrett Davidson and her husband Colter Davidson of Berthoud, Colorado, Jake Garrett of Dallas, Texas and Ross Garrett of Denver, Colorado; step-grandchildren, Pierce and Sumner Smith of Denver, Colorado and Caroline Turner of Seattle, Washington; great-grandchildren, Abby, Drew, Emily Cota, Sarah, Benjamin, Luke Weiss, Gabe, Brody, William, Elin Garrett, Alysia, Kaylee, Peyton Garrett, Riley, Molly, Addie Davidson. Proceeding Bob in death were his parents, two sisters and a brother. Memorials are suggested to Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden.
