Obituary for Robert “Bob” Rains Robert “Bob” Rains (1941-2018) CEDAR FALLS – Robert “Bob” Rains, 77, of Cedar Falls died Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at his home. He was born May 19, 1941 in Mankato, Minnesota, son of Chester and Marie (McGuire) Rains. He married Arla Oberle on May 29, 1965 in Gilman, Wisconsin.

He graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1960 and served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He worked in tool and die at John Deere for 36 years, retiring in 1996 and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church for 53 years. Survived by: his wife of Cedar Falls; two sons, Michael Rains of Ames and Steven (Heather) Rains of Cedar Falls; and a grandson, Cody Rains.

Preceded in death by: his parents; two sisters, Joan Klaseus and Darlene Thurston; and a brother, Wesley Rains. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 18 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49 Honor Guard and the Iowa Army National Guard.

Visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 17 at Richardson Funeral Service and also for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Robert “Bob” Rains please visit our Sympathy Store.
