CALCUTTA – Robert F. “Bob” and Patricia “Pat” Trotter passed away at home while surrounded by their loving family March 8th and 9th after 71 years of marriage. Bob was born in Calcutta, June 14, 1926, he was a son of the late Frank A. and Helen Clemensen Trotter. A 1944 graduate of East Liverpool High School, he went on to serve in the U.S. Army in Italy during World War II.

Pat was born October 30, 1930 in Weston, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Frederick F. and Geneva Doak Butcher. Raised in Georgetown, Pennsylvania, she would graduate from the former Midland High School with the Class of 1948 and lived most of her life in this area. The couple married July 10, 1948 and together raised five children: four sons, Robert F. Trotter, Jr. and his wife, Karen, Mark A. Trotter and his wife, Yvonne, Andrew Trotter and his wife, Trudy, and David Trotter, all of Calcutta.

A daughter, Sharon Trotter Keys passed away in 1991. While raising her family, Pat earned her teaching degree from Geneva College and began a remarkable career in education. She began teaching kindergarten at Calcutta United Presbyterian Church and eventually taught at Calcutta Elementary.

Her strong faith in God and His word led her to be associated with the development of what would become the East Liverpool Christian School where she also taught and served as the administrator. Her last teaching position was at the Louis Tobin Center where she retired after 21 years of service. She held several professional memberships including Delta Kappa Gamma, Business and Professional Women and was once named Columbiana County Citizen of the Year.

Pat was also involved with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Columbiana County. Bob learned to drive truck at the age of 14 and worked for the former Interstate Motor Freight in Calcutta until his retirement. He also worked the family farm for many years.

He became associated with the S and W Construction Company and built homes on the farm. He was a supporter and volunteer with 4-H and later held membership in the East Liverpool Historical Society. Together they loved to travel, especially motor home trips to Alaska and vacationing at the beach.

They were instrumental in the formation of Faith Community Church when they donated the land and help with the construction of the building and the parsonage not far from the family’s home – Bob served as an Elder and Pat was the youth director. Later, Bob and Pat became members of Northside Community Church and Trinity Baptist of Mooresville, North Carolina. There are six grandchildren, Robyn Keys, Amy Trotter, Kyle Trotter (Ashley), Melinda Williams (Edward), Rachel Trotter, Andrea Trotter and Courtney Dalrymple (Josh), as well as seven great-grandchildren, Garrett Keys, Terry “TJ” Trotter, Wesley Williams, Avery Dalrymple, Aiden Dalrymple, Isabella Brown and James Brown.

In addition, Pat leaves a sister, Nancy Czech and her husband, James, of Calcutta, as well as a brother, Greg Butcher and his wife, Connie, of Washington. Pat was also preceded in death by a sister, Jacquelyn Lee Umenstetter and a brother, Frederick F. Butcher, Jr. Friends may visit Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 8 p.m. Pastor Larry Rose of Northside Community Church will conduct a funeral service for Mr. and Mrs. Trotter Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Longs Run Cemetery where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct military honors.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Northside Community Church for fellowship.
