A true man’s man, Robert Eugene Schirmer was born July 2, 1944 to the late Julia Moore Schirmer, in North Platte, Nebraska. “Bob” took his final breath and went to walk hand in hand with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 11, 2018. His life will be celebrated and remembered among family and friends at the First United Methodist Church, in Forney, Texas on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 11 AM.

Being born and raised in North Platte, Bob grew up with a love for all things outdoors. Some of his most cherished moments were spent flushing quail and pheasants, and taking down a perfect point buck with his family and friends in the sand hills of Nebraska and the plains of Texas. Bob had a special love for his dogs, specifically his chocolate lab Kayla who he spent many of his retired hours with.

He also loved the game of Texas Hold ‘Em and gained a loyal and loving group of friends who knew him as a Monster Bluffer and Straight Caller. Throughout his life, Bob felt such a deep pride and commitment to the country he loved. He proudly enlisted and served in the United States Army from August 29, 1969 to September 29, 1977, including two tours of duty in Vietnam.

In addition to his years of service, he spent 5 years working for John Hancock, and 22 dedicated years serving as a United States Postal Carrier in Mansfield, Texas. He was an active member of the Shriners and the Masonic Lodge. Whenever and wherever people gathered around Bob, he earned their love and respect with his honesty, authenticity and humor.

He had a smile for the ages. He lived a life that exemplified moving between the worst and the best. Bob married Linnie Sue Webb on March 4, 1995 and they lived their years, together, in Arlington, Texas and the last 10 years in West Tawakoni, Texas.

He is preceeded in death by his son David Raymond Mikeska, his brother Rusty Schirmer and his son-in-law Paul Douglas Wilson. He will be missed by his wife Linnie Schirmer, sons Robert Eugene Johnson and wife Tina, Ronnie Shane Johnson and wife Tera, Arnold Anthony Mikeska, Jr., and Jerry Kitchens, Jr.; daughters Jodi Wheeler, Brandi Nicole Kitchens, Lorraine Mikeska Grillo and husband Lino, Charlotte Wilson, Elizabeth (Flick) Beavers and husband Jay; his brother John Schirmer; his sister Doretta Cain. Also surviving Bob are generations of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren whom he adored and who adored him in kind.
