Robert J. DeFontes “Bob”, age 81, died November 29, 2018 at home with his loving family by his side. He was the husband of Marion (Saleeba) DeFontes for 61 years. Born on June 10, 1937, in Pawtucket, he was a son of the late John B. and Florence E. (Holmes) DeFontes.

Robert worked as a truck driver for Teamsters Local 251. He also worked as a special police officer for the Town of East Providence for 4 years and the Town of Seekonk for 38 years. Following his retirement, he worked as a school bus driver for the Seekonk Schools and was known as Uncle Bob to all the students.

He proudly served our country with the US Army. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; John DeFontes of Rehoboth, Doreen Taylor of Seekonk, Jeffrey DeFontes and his wife Christine of Swansea, 3 grandchildren; David Taylor, Kevin Taylor, Jessica DeFontes, 3 great grandchildren; Andrew, Amelia and Malcolm. He was predeceased by his grandson Jacob DeFontes.

He is survived by his sister Joyce Boulanger of NJ and many nieces and nephews. Robert was a gentle man and his life was exemplified by his faith, service and kindness to all who knew him. The family acknowledges the nurses from Beacon Hospice for the care and kindnesses given to Bob and his family.

In support to Beacon Hospice, contributions in Robert’s memory may be made to the Amedisys Foundation, 3854 American Way, Ste A, Baton Rouge, LA 70816. A special thank-you to the VA Medical Center in Providence, for their care, compassion and human sensitivity. His funeral will begin on Tuesday at 9am from the Rebello Funeral Home and Crematory, 901 Broadway East Providence, RI.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10am in Our Lady of Loreto Church, 346 Waterman Ave. , East Providence. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
