Fletcher, NC: Robert Lloyd “Bobby” Carter, age 66, a life-long area resident of Buncombe County, passed away in his home after an extended illness. Bobby was born in Asheville, NC on June 14, 1952 (Flag Day), He was the son of the late Joseph Lloyd and Robenia (Smith) Carter of Fletcher, NC. Survivors include his four brothers and sisters; Margaret (Bobby) Duncan of Seneca, SC, Billy Carter of Cherokee, NC, Rick Carter of Fletcher, NC and Linda (Roby) Brookshire of Canton, NC.

He also leaves behind several nieces, grand-nieces and nephews, and a host of dear friends old and new, all of whom will miss his undaunted spirit, humor and love of life. Bobby was a 1970 graduate of T.C. Roberson High School in Asheville. Professionally, he was a dispatcher for Thurston Truck Lines, a lineman at Gerber Manufacturing, and a dispatcher for a local cab company.

In the 1980’s, he played drums for a popular local band, The TLC Band, for many years – a passion he held since childhood, along with great pride for his adventures and accomplishments with The Boy Scouts of America, which included receiving the Order of the Arrow distinction. Bobby’s boisterous personality was not only evident in his performances, but in every minute of every day. He was more often than not the life of the party, the one everyone gravitated toward for laughter and entertainment at any gathering.

He could always be counted on for the funny joke and nearly always delivered. Bobby was easy to talk to, and never met a stranger. He reveled in engaging with as many people as possible and likely had more friends than could be counted.

He will forever be missed. Bobby had requested that no formal services or remembrances be held. In memory of Bobby and in lieu of flowers, donations of money or time can be made in his honor to causes close to your own hearts.
