Obituary for Robert Lee Kirby RICHMOND, Ind. – Robert Lee Kirby, age 79, of Richmond, Indiana, died Monday, November 26, 2018, at Rosebud Village. Born October 24, 1939, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Ralph and Mildred Bowman Kirby, Robert was a 1957 graduate of Clarksville High School in Ohio.
He served in the U.S. Air Force for 12 years, including one tour of duty in Vietnam. Robert was awarded an Air Force Commendation Medal for his service in Vietnam. After leaving the military, Robert moved to Richmond in 1972, where he began working as a manager at Ponderosa Steakhouse.
Next, Robert worked as an insurance agent for Western & Southern Life Insurance Company. He retired as a truck driver from Conway Central Express. Robert was a proud defender of the Second Amendment and was an NRA Patriot Life Benefactor and NRA Golden Eagles member.
He was also a member of First United Methodist Church, American Legion Harry Ray Post #65, and Old Trails Rifle & Pistol Club and had served as a volunteer at the Richmond Community Food Pantry. Robert enjoyed woodworking, reloading ammunition, and organic gardening. He had a life-long love of music, which he passed along to his children.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Beverly Moore Kirby; daughters, Angela (Rob) McNamara and Dara Lee (Jeff) Dapore, both of Centerville, Ohio; sons, R. Norman (Ashlee) Kirby of West Lafayette, Indiana, and Micah Kirby of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren, Zoë, Andrew Jacob, Izabella, Ella, Olivia, and Margaret Joan; sister, Leta Kirby Louiso of Sarasota, Florida; sisters-in-law, Jeanne Frederick and Margaret Kirby, both of Ohio; nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Stanley and Don Kirby. Memorial visitation for Robert Lee Kirby will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2018, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
Memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2018, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Ted Chalk officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard. Burial will be in Dayton National Cemetery at a later date.
