Robert S. Butts, age 93, residing in South Bend, Indiana passed away at 7:40 PM Thursday, July 26, 2018 at his home. Robert worked at Tip Top Bakery for 38 years, retiring in 1985. He also worked at Notre Dame as a grounds keeper for fifteen years.

Robert was born on December 21, 1924 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Ross Butts and Verna Shellenberger Butts and remained a lifelong resident of South Bend. On June 18, 1994 in South Bend, Indiana he married Patricia Rose Butts, who preceded him in death on March 29, 2001. Robert is survived by his daughter, Sherl A. (William) Squires of South Bend; and his sister Barbara Armor of Elkhart.

A stepdaughter, Debbie A. Smith of South Bend; stepsons, Harold N. Smith of South Bend and Jerry Smith of South Bend. Many grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Robert was also preceded in death by his sons, Robert Butts and Ross Butts; two sisters, Betty Mae Mroczkiewicz and Ruth Prickette; and his previous wife, Vivian Waynette Butts.

Robert was a member of VFW #624, the Eagles, and Moose Lodge. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Palmer Funeral Home-River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Ave. , South Bend.

Rev. David Szymczak will officiate. Entombment will follow in Riverview Mausoleum, South Bend.

Friends may visit with the family from 11:00am on Monday until time of services at the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Robert S. Butts may be made to Animal Care & Control, 521 Eclipse Place, South Bend, IN 46628. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.
