Robert Schneider, 91, a long time resident of Westfield passed away peacefully at home on March 9, 2019. Robert was born October 17, 1927 in Suwalki, Poland to Frank and Augusta (Herbst) Schneider. He grew up working on his family’s farm and later immigrated to the United States in 1951, together with his immediate family and settled in Westfield.

He married his beloved wife, Edna (Wroblewski) on May 29, 1954. He was a communicant of St. John’s Lutheran Church and was active in the church during his entire life. He was employed by H.B. Smith in Westfield for over 30 years until his retirement.

We’ll all remember him for his good humor and gentle nature, his wonderful smile, his love and devotion to his family, his strong and steadfast faith and his strong work ethic that served as an example to us all. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather and uncle who always put others before himself. He especially loved being with his two grandchildren and more recently his great-grandchild.

He also loved gardening, working around the house, volunteering at St. John’s and spending time with his family and friends. He will always be in our hearts. Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Edna; son, Richard and his wife, Lea; sister, Alma Sofinowski; brother-in-law’s; Emil Wrobleski and his wife, Martha, Ewald Wrobleski and Eric Wrobleski; sister-in-law, Annegret Wroblewski and her husband Scott Kimball; grandchildren, Kara (Schneider) Sullivan and husband Christopher, Gregory Schneider and his fiancé, Marissa Ellis; great grandchild, Rose Mae Sullivan; nieces, Christine (Sofinowski) Swords and her husband Christopher, Irene (Sofinowski) Crowder, Valerie (Wrobleski) Main and her husband Donald; nephews, Yuri Kimball and Steven Wrobleski and many grand nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his older brother, Edward and older sister, Emelia. Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 11, 2019 4-7pm and Tuesday, March 12, 2019 11am-12noon at St. John’s Lutheran Church (lounge), 60 Broad St., Westfield, MA. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at St. John’s Lutheran Church at 12noon, with a luncheon to follow in the Fellowship Hall of the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery Association. Those wishing to are welcome to leave their condolences and sign the electronic guest book on the Firtion Adams or MassLive websites.
