Rodney’s Obituary Rodney Lee Trexler told his last inappropriate joke on Sunday, January 13, at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington, NC. Uncle Rod, as he was known to many, was a native of Lexington. He was born in Davidson County on January 3, 1949 but spent the majority of his life in Raleigh, North Carolina and fearlessly made his presence known at the Players Retreat in the last bar stool, closest to his favorite chef, Ms. Beth.

Rod’s employment history was fairly standard – a county surveyor, oyster shucker, inappropriate story teller, and most importantly, a die hard fan of the Wolfpack. Uncle Rod loved his family, Lynyrd Skynyrd, his dog DJ, oysters, and barbeque…. and not necessarily in that order.

He hated ketchup based barbeque sauces and hypocrites. But he loved to tell stories, and you could be sure 75 percent of every story was true. His parents, Percy and Hollis Trexler, precede him in death.

Surviving are his brothers Todd (Elena) Trexler, Bruce Trexler, and Allen (Lisa) Trexler. Also surviving are his nieces and nephews Pavel (Brisa) Anokhin, Will Trexler, and Rachel Trexler. Blair, more commonly known as “Boo”, her husband Eric, and daughter Erika, have become proud caretakers of his faithful pup, DJ, and continue to watch the Wolfpack memorializing him during each sporting event.

His one regret in life was not training his faithful dog DJ to detect kidney and liver failure. Absolut vodka and Busch Beer companies are devastated by the loss of Uncle Rod. A “Celebration of Life” will be held at The Brewers Kettle in Lexington from 2-4pm on Wednesday, January 16.

Everyone who remembers him is asked to celebrate Rod’s life in their own way; raising a glass of your favorite beverage in his memory would be quite appropriate. Anyone wearing black will not be admitted to the celebration of life. Memorial donations in Rod’s name can be made to your favorite charity or your favorite watering hole, where you are instructed to tie a few on and tell a few stories of the great Uncle Rod.
