Roger’s Obituary Roger D. Clapp, 85, a resident of Atkinson since 1971, died March 25, 2019, surrounded by his family at Hannah Duston Longterm Healthcare Center in Haverhill, following a long period of declining health. Born in Stoneham, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Raymond and Mildred (Gilman) Clapp. Raised and educated in Melrose, Mr. Clapp was a member of the Melrose High School Class of 1953.

He served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict, and was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal before being honorably discharged in 1957. Mr. Clapp was employed as an Associate Engineer in the Radar Program for thirty-nine years at Raytheon until his retirement. He also served for eight years as a member of the Atkinson, NH Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Clapp maintained a life-long interest in airplanes, classic cars and model railroading. He was also an avid fan of the New York Yankees. His grandson Wesley remembers that he liked to joke around and had a great laugh.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his loving and devoted wife of fifty-seven years, M. Doreen (Lisbon) Clapp, a son Roger D. Clapp, Jr., of Atkinson, a daughter and son-in-law, Lucinda and Larry Stabolitis of Salem, NH, two grandchildren, Wesley Clapp of Atkinson and Kelsie Clapp of Manchester, NH. The family would like to thank the staff of Prescott House in North Andover and Hannah Duston House in Haverhill for the care and comfort extended to Mr. Clapp while he was a resident in each of those healthcare facilities. Relatives and friends are invited to Mr. Clapp’s Life Celebration to be held on Monday, April 1, 2019 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH.

His funeral service will follow at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place later in the spring in Atkinson Cemetery, Atkinson. The family requests that memorial donations be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston Massachusetts or to the Atkinson Elder Services, 21 Academy Avenue, Atkinson, NH 03811.
