Obituary for Roger Zackfia Roger Lynn Zackfia, age 77, of Morocco, Indiana (formerly of Crown Point, Indiana and Nemacolin, Pennsylvania) passed away on February 2, 2018. Roger was born on July 17, 1940 in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Matthew and Novelia (Crouch) Zackfia. He was lovingly raised by his grandparents, the late Huston and Margaret (Ashkettle) Crouch, after both of his parents died at a young age.
Roger loved his family, most of all his wife of 58 years, Joanne (Jagoda) Zackfia, for whom he fell in love at first sight upon meeting in 1957 and married July 11, 1959. He loved his farm, planning home improvements and the next vacation, deer hunting, investing in stocks, and his pets. One of his favorite recent vacations was a tour of castles in Britain, particularly Highclere Castle as Downton Abbey was his favorite television show.
Roger was a graduate of Cumberland Township High School, class of 1958, and retired from US Steel after 30 years as a millwright and supervisor. In addition to his wife, Roger is survived by his three daughters: Karen Zackfia, Patty (Dave) Modrowski, and Sharon Zackfia as well as four grandchildren: Debbie (Rob) Burnett, Jeffrey (Becky) Modrowski, Stephen Modrowski, and Jake Zackfia, and two great-grandchildren: Kaylee Burnett and Molly Modrowski. He is also survived by three sisters: Carol Kuklar, Rhonda (Melvin) Kraft, and Beverly (John) Morgan, a half-sister Sharon Neidhardt, and in-laws Joe (Freda) Jagoda, Jr., Doloris McClelland, Mona Jagoda, and Judy Crouch.
He was preceded in death by two brothers (John Crouch and Gary Crouch), two sisters (Gloria Crane and Ardith Cosgrove), one granddaughter (Susan Modrowski), and two brothers-in-law (Joe McClelland and Ed Jagoda). Roger was greatly loved and is profoundly missed. A private memorial celebration for family and close friends will be held in the future in lieu of a wake and funeral.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Melanoma Research Foundation or charity of choice in Roger’s name. Share memories and condolences at www. steinkefuneralhome.com.
