Roland George Durocher, 89, of Cardinal Drive passed away on Tuesday, March 5th at Baystate Medical Center. Son of the late Clarence and Violet (St. Martin) Durocher, he was born in West Springfield and was a graduate of West Springfield High School, Class of 1947. For most of his adult life, he resided in Agawam and Longmeadow.

Roland was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Patricia E. (Maloney) Durocher in 2008. He was the ultimate caregiver to Patricia for the last 15 years of her life. Roland was a Manufacturing Engineer at United Technologies/Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks, CT for 38 years, retiring in 1986.

He served in the Connecticut Air National Guard for 6 years. Roland was very active in youth sports, coaching baseball and hockey in Longmeadow. He was on of the founders of the Longmeadow Hockey Association.

He was an avid horseracing fan and was a Standard Bred horse owner. Roland was well known for being a “Jack of All Trades”, using his skills to build and fix anything and everything. He and Patricia loved to travel and especially enjoyed taking cruises.

Roland was a loving father to his four children: Donna D. Nash (and husband Jack) of South Glastonbury, CT, Brian G. Durocher (and wife Laura) of Brookline, MA, James T. Durocher (and wife Donna) of Longmeadow, MA and Richard A. Durocher (and wife Shawn) of Princeton, MA. He was predeceased by brothers Robert Durocher and Bernard Durocher and was the caring brother to sisters Shirley Lertora of Springfield, MA and Judy Fortin of Burlington, MA. Roland was devoted to his grandchildren Jonathan Nash, Meredith Nash, Kirsten Durocher, Kara Hebb, Kelsey Smith, Patrick Durocher, Jennifer Durocher, Olivia Durocher and Christina Durocher.

He was the cherished great-grandfather of Colton Jack Nash, Mackenzie Lynn Nash and Jonathan Ryder Smith. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. Calling hours are Monday from 11:30AM-12:30PM at the Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home 1043 Westfield St West Springfield with a Funeral Mass to follow at 1PM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Springfield.

Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Roland’s name may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children 516 Carew St. Springfield, MA. 01104.
