Ronald J. Husemann, 83, of Fowler, died at 2:24 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2018, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. Ron was born July 24, 1934, the hottest day on record for that date, 111 degrees, in Quincy. He was a son of John P. and Eva M. Humke Husemann.
He married Sara Jean Moellring on June 16, 1956, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Fowler. She survives. As a child, Ron attended Robinson Grade School and Clayton Good Shepherd Parochial School.
Ron graduated from Maplewood High School in Camp Point, IL in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-56. Ron was a self-employed farmer from 1956 until 1999, receiving the Outstanding Young Farmer award in 1967.
He established Husemann Electric in 1962 and remained active in the business until his death. A man with abounding talent, Ron designed the chapel and special needs addition of North Adams Home in Mendon, built two duplex cottages, and installed the stained-glass windows in the entry of the home. He was also vital in the 2007 construction of the fellowship hall of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church as well as the Veterans’ Memorial in Paloma to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Paloma in 2007.
Ron built and remodeled numerous homes in the area; many included his quality custom cabinetry. Ron was very active in his community. In 1973, Ron and other community members established the Central High School Quarterback Club.
He remained active until 1988 serving as president and volunteering in the “Crow’s Nest”. He served as Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 46 for 25 years, mentoring seven young men to the rank of Eagle Scout, and was recognized with the BSA’s Silver Beaver Award. Ron served on the church council of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church for several years, the North Adams Home board for 19 years, serving 16 as President, and served on the Camp Point Mutual Insurance Company board for 18 years from 1988 until 2006.
He was a member of the Coatsburg Lions Club and served as its secretary for 50 years, served as the State Youth Exchange Chairman in 1970, and made a trip to Tokyo, Japan in 1969 to be installed as the Lions District 1-G Governor. A proud and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Ron loved nothing more than gathering with his family and celebrating their many accomplishments. Surviving in addition to his wife are their children, Warren (Julia) Husemann of Coatsburg, Wayne (Kathy) Husemann of O’Fallon, IL, Ronda (Randy) Frese of Paloma, Rosalie (Phillip) Chadderdon of East Galesburg, and John (Roberta) Husemann of La Grange, IL; his grandchildren, Nicole (Jeff) Shields, Kristen Kamprath, Kimberly (Lucas) Ervin, Tate (Hannah) Husemann, Anna and Dirk Husemann, Laura (fiance’ Brian Kennedy) Frese, Jana (Daniel) Brookshier, Sara (fiancé Neil Eoloff) Frese, Amanda (Patrick) Malone, Nathan and Kathryn Chadderdon, Hannah, Isaac, and Elise Husemann; his great grandchildren, Laina and Lucy Shields, Oliver Kamprath, and Jackson Husemann; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson-in-law, Aaron Kamprath; two sisters, Vivian Viar and Roberta Hoskins; and a brother, M. Dale Husemann. Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2018, at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Coatsburg by Pastor Patricia Reep. Burial with military honors will follow at Graymount Cemetery, Coatsburg.
