Charles R. “Chuck” Griffin, 79, of Carthage, Illinois died at 11:11 am Sunday June 3, 2018 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, IL. He was born on March 12, 1939 in Tennessee, IL to Reed and Dorothy Wear Griffin. He was united in marriage to Mary A. Grotts on November 24, 1956 in Shelbyville, Missouri.

She preceded him in death on April 17, 2012. Chuck was a 1957 graduate of Plymouth High School. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country for 21 years including service in Vietnam.

After retiring from the Army he worked as a design engineer at Methode Electronics in Carthage, IL. He was a member of the Carthage Eagles Club and Carthage VFW. He enjoyed woodworking and renovating houses with his wife Mary.

He is survived by 2 sons, Keith (Deloris) Griffin of Karnack, TX. , Kevin (Jackie) Griffin of Byram, MS. , a daughter, Terry Griffin of Carthage, Il.

, 7 grandchildren, Joel and Jeremy Kerr, Jenna Flambeau, Cody and Colleen Griffin, Tina Hammonds, Jessica Roy, 10 great-grandchildren, a half-sister, Betty Creasey of Taylorville, IL, 2 step-brothers, Richard Garlick of Plymouth, IL and Jim Garlick of Colchester, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth Griffin and a step-sister, Joan Garlick. Funeral services will be held 6:00 pm Wednesday June 6, 2018 in the Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta, Il.

by Rev. Jerry Taylor. Visitation was held from 4:00 until the time of services Wednesday at the Funeral Home.

As per Chuck’s wishes cremation will be accorded following his services. Burial will be at a later date in Rosemont cemetery in Plymouth, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the USO.
