She was born November 3, 1932, in Alamosa, Colorado to Fil Catalino and Maria (Ricottone) Catalino. Rosie or Rose, as she preferred to be called, was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William C. Soward; her four sisters, Kathryn Van Tassel, Nora Norton, Patsy Wilburn and Josephine Holtz; one brother, Mike Catalino; and a son, William James Dewitt Soward.

Rose met the love of her life, William “Bill” Soward in Pueblo, Colorado, and they were married in 1955 in Taos, New Mexico. Traveling started early in Bill and Rose’s married life, when they left out for Blanchard, Oklahoma and lived there three years before Bill joined the Navy. Traveling was necessary for a wife whose husband served his country and Rose moved from duty assignment to duty assignment as she stood alongside her husband, faithfully providing a warm and loving home for her growing family.

After Bill retired from the Navy in 1973, the family moved back to Blanchard where Rose was able to show her love for not only for her immediate family, but for her extended family. That love was expressed in many ways. Rose was the consummate cook and host, and everyone that visited Bill and Rose’s home left with a full stomach and a contented heart, knowing that her love found expression in hospitality.

Rose had a compassionate heart and a quiet unassuming manner about her that exuded the love of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a long-standing member of the First Baptist Church of Blanchard where she used the gifts that God blessed her with to serve others. Rose was a prayer warrior, and prayed often and fervently, not for herself, but for those around her.

She touched many as she served God with unfailing faith. Rose is survived by her sons, Patrick Soward and wife, Beth, of Blanchard, and John Soward of Grand Prairie, Texas; her grandchildren, Jason Soward and wife, Mistie, of Blanchard, Steven Soward and wife, Amanda, of Shawnee, and Ashley Smith of Tuttle; her great grandchildren, Charlotte, Elijah, Josie, and Sophia; and many other loved ones and friends. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, October 26, 2018, at the First Baptist Church in Blanchard, with Ray Sims officiating.

Interment will follow at the Blanchard Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Blanchard First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 370, Blanchard, OK 73010. Arrangements are under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard.
