Obituary for Roy Duane Baccus Roy “Duane” Baccus passed away July 24, 2018 at the age of 64. He was a man who loved his Savior Jesus Christ, and traveled the world sharing the good news of the Gospel with countless people. He was the best Daddy to his three little girls, the greatest Grandpa to his seven grandchildren, and a loving and caring husband to his beautiful wife.

Duane was born on April 3, 1954 to Jack and Clarine Baccus in Uvalde, TX. His family moved to Brownfield, TX when he was 10 months old. He graduated from Brownfield High School in 1972 and accepted a football scholarship from the University of Oklahoma.

Duane played Defensive End at OU from 1974-1976, and was a part of the 1974 and 1975 National Championship teams under Barry Switzer. He graduated from OU in 1977 and went to work for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Oklahoma. FCA would remain an organization that was very important to him throughout his life.

He started his career with State Farm Insurance in 1978 with an agency in Carrollton, TX. He moved his agency to Flower Mound in 1997 and celebrated his 40thanniversary with the company in June of this year. Duane served on the Carrollton-Farmers Branch school board from 1994-2000 in order to help ensure his daughters and the community had the best education experience possible.

He also served on the board of the local FCA chapter. He was a deacon while attending First Baptist Church of Carrollton and was a member of Prestonwood Baptist Church for the last 15 years. He taught many different Sunday School classes, including all three of his daughters’ at least one year.

He took time off work to go to church camp and mission trips with his girls. One of his favorite things to do was ride his John Deere tractor on his property, tending to his buffalo, taking his family to his lake house at Possum Kingdom Lake, watching his grandchildren at their various sporting events, and growing trees on his property in Oklahoma. Duane is survived by his wife of 42 years Leslie (Trask) Baccus of Flower Mound; daughter Corri Peterson and husband Wess of Aledo; Daughter Kimberly Smith and husband Matt of Oklahoma City; daughter Kelsey Baccus of Dallas; grandchildren McKay, Owen, Chapel, and Palmer Peterson and Aven, Sutton, and Levi Smith; brother Bill O’Connell and wife Barbara of Houston; sister Darleen Holladay of Flower Mound; sister Susan Russell and husband Mark of Abilene; brother Gary Baccus and wife Jana of Oklahoma City; sister-in-law Vicki Layton and husband Jim of Richardson; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews Duane was a friend and mentor to many and will be greatly missed.

He was a natural leader, passionate about his beliefs, a hard worker, and a blessing to all who knew him. He fought hard to the end with this horrible disease of cancer, never losing his faith or hope. He is healed at home now with a new body, celebrating in Heaven with many friends and loved ones.
