East Stone Gap, Va Ruby Marie Dickenson Gilly passed away peacefully on Saturday March 16, 2019 in her home. She was born on January 25, 1914. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon E. Gilly, her parents C.H. and Ella Dickenson and two sisters, Clara D. Sloan and Ruth V. Dickenson.

She is survived by her only daughter: Mary Ruth Gilly Baskette and son in law, Ray Baskette of Atlanta GA, she was a graduate of East Stone Gap High School, class of 1934. Before her passing, she was the oldest graduate of the high school, and also the oldest member of the East Stone Gap Baptist Church. She enjoyed being a wife, a mother, and a homemaker.

She kept an immaculate home, and yard. She loved all flowers and anything she planted grew beautifully. She loved God, her church, and the ladies of her Sunday School class.

She was a good cook; but a fabulous baker. The chocolate pies, banana pudding, and boiled custard, were the best that anyone ever ate. She ate chocolate every day, and so to honor her, some Hershey kisses will be placed in her casket.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 19 at Holding Funeral Home Big Stone Gap (17 E. 3rd St) from 1 until 2 p.m. for the visitation. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. in the funeral home’s chapel; with Dr. Lonnie Brooks and Rev. Bobby Hamilton officiating.

Graveside services will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to East Stone Gap Baptist church, P.O. Box 100 East Stone Gap, VA 24246 Honorary Pallbearers will be: Johnny Slagle, Shannon Dickenson, Anthony Dickenson, Tom Dickenson, Jeremiah Bledsoe, John Schoolcraft, and Poss Bolling. The family would like to express their gratitude for her cousins Tom and Dee Dickenson and all of her caregivers, who helped her the past several years.
