Ruby’s Obituary Funeral services for Ruby Carpenter Rowan Vandiver, 87, of Denison, formerly of Myrtle Springs, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2019, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point. Interment will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City.

She passed early Monday morning, March 25, 2019, at the Terrace in Denison. Ruby was born on January 11, 1932, in Dallas, the daughter of Ed Carpenter and Odie Adams Carpenter. She was raised in Dallas and was a graduate of Forest Avenue High School and later attended Eastfield College in Dallas.

On April 6, 1993, she married Billy Joe Vandiver in Canton. Ruby was certified as a drug and alcohol counselor and was a postal carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Mesquite, where she retired. She also worked with her husband, Billy, for Meals on Wheels in Edgewood and was an Ombudsman for Crestwood Nursing Home in Wills Point and Azalea Trails Nursing Home in Grand Saline.

Ruby was a member of the Russell Memorial United Methodist Church in Wills Point. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Ed & Odie Carpenter; husband, Billy Vandiver; five brothers, Joseph Carpenter, Raymond Carpenter, Buddy Carpenter, O.D. Carpenter and Johnny Carpenter and three sisters, Magdelene Jones, Hazel Gunnels and Opal Spurgin. Ruby is survived by four sons, Ricky Rowan & wife, Stacy, Randall Rowan & wife, Tina, Malcolm Rowan & wife, Yvette and Alan Rowan & wife, Tammy; thirteen grandchildren, Ricky Wayne Rowan, Amanda Zerangue, Ashley Wright, Mason Rowan, Lisa Rowan Taylor, Lucas Rowan, Adam Rowan, John Rowan, Jacob Rowan, Blake Rowan, Jared Gerard, Bradley Rowan and Kersti Engrav; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister, Jean Plaster; sister-in-law, Nancy Carpenter; numerous nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to service.
