Obituary for Russell A. “Rusty” Ours Russell Allen Ours, 37, of Fairfax, VA, was killed Thursday, August 30, 2018 in a motorcycle accident. Born on March 30, 1981 to parents Laura Hinnant, of Vienna, and Burnard Ours Senior “Lee”, of West Virginia. Rusty was raised by his mother and step-father, Laura and James Hinnant; and his late grandmother, Bobbie Benjamin (1942-2018).
Rusty went to Frost middle school and graduated from Woodson Highschool in 1999. He worked as a bouncer at the Clarendon Grill & Clarendon Ballroom for 10+ years, and more recently was working as a bouncer at Blue Iguana over the past 6+ years. Growing up, Rusty was all about sports.
He played football and baseball and had a fast ball that always took batters by surprise. He won many CY Young awards for his fast pitch, averaging over 86 miles per hour. He loved being at the beach, working on cars (which he learned from his mom), riding dirt bikes, and driving fast.
The man had no fear! A trait he and his brother Burnie have shared. Rusty was the first to open the door for a lady and first to throw a man out for disrespecting one.
He was the kind of guy who always showed up to help friends and family. He stepped up and took care of his niece and nephew as if they were his own when his brother was away. He loved animals, especially dogs and lived his life with his heart on his sleeve.
Rusty had a passion for “fun” and was the King of side jobs; the guy could fix anything! Rusty is survived by his mother and step-father, Laura and James Hinnant; father, Lee Ours Senior; brothers, Burnard “Burnie” Lee Ours Jr. and John Argenteiro; niece and nephew, Tarrah J. Ours and Troy J. Ours; his sister and her husband, Stephanie & Casey Blair; sisters Shannon Williamson and Crystal Robinson; second mom, Tracy Rice; girlfriend and friend of many years and her two daughters, Pam Barkley, Aubrey & Avery; great uncle and aunt, John “Hoppy” and Terry Benjamin; aunts, Debbie Ness-Rexroad and Marie K. Sandridge; grandfather, Ronald William Sandridge; grandmother, Linda Hinnant; great aunt, Jeannie E. Benjamin; long time best friends, David Sacknoff, Greg Moldenhauer, including Ian Purcell and the entire Blue Iguana family, as well as all the Benjamin and Ours extended families. The family will receive friends at 11:00 am, preceding a 1:00 pm funeral service on September 15, 2018 at the Epiphany Episcopal Church at 3301 Hidden Meadow Drive Oak Hill, Virginia 20171.
There will be a reception to follow at Blue Iguana at 12727 Shoppes Lane Fairfax, Virginia 22033. As many already know, Rusty lost his grandmother, Bobbie Benjamin “Mama” on July 15, 2018 from Dementia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that honorary contributions be sent to the Dementia Society of America.
