Obituary for Russell Eugene Berg Russell E. Berg, age 91, formerly of Kenyon, died on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Rochester, St. Mary’s Campus. The funeral service will be Thursday, July 12 at 1:00 pm at the Mahn Family Funeral Home – Larson Chapel in Zumbrota with Pastor David Krinke . The visitation will be at 11:30 am, just prior to the service on Thursday.

Burial will be in the United Lutheran Cemetery. Russell Eugene Berg was born on July 24, 1926 in Pine Island to Alvin and Clara (Dahl) Berg. He attended country school in Roscoe Township graduating from the 8th grade in 1940.

Russell entered into the United States Army on December 4, 1944 and entered into service at Fort Snelling. He was a powerhouse engineer stationed at Luzon in the Philippine Islands. He was honorably discharged on November 18, 1946, with several medals and ribbons of honor.

On May 15, 1948 Russell married Gloria Flaaen at Lutheran Parsonage in Zumbrota. They lived in various places in California working different jobs, until moving back to Kenyon, MN in 1955. Russell worked for the Canning Factory in Kenyon, Sellner Tilt-a-Whirl and Nutting Trucking in Faribault as a welder, he started as a carpenter building bridges in Owatonna and did many other construction jobs until his retirement at age 60.

Gloria passed on March 30, 1979. Russell married Clarice (Fredrickson) Berg on September 25, 1992 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester, and together they traveled to Arizona every winter until the last five years. In July of 2018 he moved to the Rose Wing of Gunderson Gardens Assisted Living until his passing.

Russell enjoyed dancing, working and staying busy, and especially spending time with family and his grandchildren. Russell is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Clarice; three children, Vicky Berg of Shakopee, Deb (Jerry) Christopherson of Heron Lake, and Steven (Colleen) Berg of Northfield; four step-children, Beverly Marx, Ron Berg, Ric (Debbie) Berg, and Cori (Ivory) Giles; two grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Russell was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Berg; and siblings, Elverne, Adeline, Arlene, Leo, Clayton, and Clifton.
