Obituary for Ruth E. (Campbell) Dawkins Albany, NY Ruth E. (Campbell) Dawkins passed away at the Teresian House in Albany, NY on April 3rd at the age of 93. Ruth was born on April 26, 1924 in Cohoes, NY to the late George S. Campbell and Julia Horton Campbell. She grew up at the height of the Great Depression in Cohoes with her parents and two siblings, the late Mary Bovino and the late Ida Silverstein, and so much of who she was is tied to her experiences during that time.
Ruth graduated from Cohoes High School in 1942. After graduating, as a member of the Greatest Generation, she went to work at General Electric in Schenectady to play her part in World War II as a technician manufacturing items that were essential to the war effort. Ruth always said that this was one of the most exciting times in her life because there was always a celebration as someone left for or returned home from military service.
Later, she became an elder-caregiver, and continued her work of supporting and caring for those around her. Ruth met her husband, the late Joseph R. Dawkins, in 1946 and they were married on May 30, 1948. Married for 44 years, they raised two sons, John T. (Barbara) Dawkins and Michael J. (Cynthia) Dawkins, also of Cohoes.
Ruth lived a very simple but full life, and all who knew her could see that. She gave of herself to her family, and that was always her first priority. She enjoyed time with her sisters, walks around the neighborhood, and reminiscing with her grandchildren about growing up in the 1920s and 30s so they would always know how lucky they have it.
She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Timothy (Amy) Dawkins, Larissa (Kevin) Fremont, Peter (Jessica) Dawkins, Matthew Hotaling, Adam (Jenny) Hotaling, and the late Stephen Hotaling. She truly enjoyed being able to spend time with her five great- grandchildren, Declan, Joseph, Ava, Ben, and Miles. In addition, she is survived by a sister- in-law, Annette Dawkins, two nephews, Larry and Kevin Burns, a niece Donna Kozlowski, and several great nieces and nephews.
Our family would like to thank the wonderful staff of the Teresian House for their kind and loving care. Relatives and friends may call from 4-8 pm on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the Marra Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Friday, April 6, 2018, at Holy Trinity Church, 122 Vliet Blvd, Cohoes.
