Obituary for Florence F. Provost Cohoes, NY Florence F. Provost, 90, went to her eternal rest on June 22, 2018 after a brief illness. Born August 9, 1927 in Sag Harbor NY to Vincent and Pauline Cantelmo Alioto Sr She was the former spouse of the late Martin B. Claydon and widow of George A. Provost of Cohoes.

Mrs. Provost graduated from Pearson High School in Sag Harbor in 1945 where she studied business. Later in life she took various college courses through American Institute of Banking. She was employed as a secretary in New York City before moving to Troy.

She worked as a legal secretary in Troy for many years for various well known attorneys and judges. In 1979 Mrs. Provost took a secretarial position with State Bank of Albany which later became Norstar Bank and then Fleet Financial retiring in 1990. Mrs. Provost was a former soloist and choir member at St. Jude The Apostle Church in Wynantskill.

She also sang locally at various veteran and political events. She also entertained at night spots, hotels and clubs as a singer in and around the Capital District. She is survived by her daughter Colleen P. Gallagher Van Guilder (Clifton) of Malta and two grandchildren , Benjamin and Molly Rae Van Guilder both of Malta.

Also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was sister of the late Vincent and James Alioto. Relatives and friends are invited to attend graveside services on Tuesday July 3, 2018 at 11am in Memory Gardens Cemetery Colonie.

There are no calling hours. The family is extremely grateful to the staff at the Eddy Village Green in Cohoes for the wonderful care Florence received while in residence. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make donations to the “Eddy Enrichment Fund” 421 West Columbia St. Cohoes NY 12047.
