RUTH E. O’CONNOR March 07, 1920 – January 07, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book Ruth Evelyn (Nielsen) O’Connor,98, was born to Norwegian immigrants, Julius and Anna (Lie) Nielsen, on March 7, 1920 in Brooklyn, NY. She passed away from natural causes on Monday, January 7, 2019 at the DeKalb County Rehab and Nursing Center. Ruth graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn and worked as a bank teller for many years, retiring in 1979.

She married George F. O’Connor in Brooklyn on December 6, 1942 and they lived in Brooklyn, Levittown, and Central Islip, NY, where they raised their two sons. They moved to DeKalb, IL in 1995. George passed away a year later on May 22, 1996.

Ruth is survived by two sons, G. Allan (Judy) O’Connor of DeKalb, and Robert D. (Catherine) O’Connor of East Lyme, CT; five grandchildren, Kristin (Dave Elliott)Taylor of DeKalb, Sean (Christina) O’Connor of Little River, SC, Ethan (Amanda) O’Connor of Murfreesboro, TN, David (Karyn Lyman) O’Connor of Philadelphia, PA, and Kevin (Fredilyn Lipata) O’Connor of Newport News, VA; twelve great-grandchildren, Drew (fiancé Jackie Irving)Taylor, Hillary (Ethan) Rutten, Evan Taylor, Cameron Taylor, Lindsey, Nathan, Zachary, Cole, Maddy, Caitlin, Kelly, and Kristofer O’Connor; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, and brother and sister-in-law, Rev. L. Henry and Margaret Nielsen.

There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. The family will hold a private memorial service later this year.
