Ruth Ellen Lonsdale Covault was born in the family home in Dale City, Iowa, on August 25, 1923, to parents Fred and Cecile Patterson Lonsdale. Ruth was the youngest daughter of their six children. She passed away September 29, 2018 at the age of 95.

She attended country school at Dale City then Stuart High School from 9th – 11th grades. She had to transfer to Guthrie Center High School to finish her senior year since she had no way to get to Stuart.
