Abingdon, Va. Ruth Ellen Horne, 76, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018. Ruth was born December 16, 1941 in Charleston, W.V. to the late Lemuel Fain and Mary Tibbs Fain.

She had spent most of her life in Washington Co., was a member of Greendale Chapel, and attended First Baptist Church in Damascus. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Denver Horne; one daughter, Kathy Smith; two sons, Doug Trivitt and Dale Trivitt; two brothers, Lemuel Fain, Jr. and David Fain;… Read More » two grandchildren, Jacob and Kourtney. Ruth is survived by her mother, Mary Tibbs Fain; daughter-in-law, Sue Trivitt; daughters Pam Shumate, Laura Lee and husband Jeff, and Kelly Singleton, all of Abingdon; brothers, Robert Fain of Whitetop, Steven Fain of Bristol, and John Fain of Minnesota; sisters, Susan Gentry and Helen Gentry, both of Laurel Bloomery, and Rose Ann Sheets of Troutdale; grandchildren Chad, Holly, Danielle, Kaitlyn, Tara, Steffi, Angela, Kevin, Isaac, and Eli; and nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral service for Ruth Ellen Horne will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 2, 2018 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Jerry Eggers officiating. The committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 3, 2018 in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.

Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:50 p.m. Honorary pallbearers will be men of Greendale Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until time of service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Greendale Chapel, P.O. Box 1314, Abingdon, VA 24212.
