Ruth I. Ramel, 90, of Kewaskum, passed away on Friday, July 6, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in the town of Polk. Ruth was born on March 7, 1928, in West Bend, the daughter of the late Arthur and Edna (nee Reul) Birkholz. On April 26, 1947, she was united in marriage to Ruben Ramel at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Scott.

Ruben preceded Ruth in death on October 5, 1987. Ruth was a member of New Horizon United Church of Christ. She was employed by West Bend Mutual Insurance.

Ruth was a dedicated volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Cedar Ridge, and at her church. Her generosity to the church, community and other charitable organizations will always be appreciated. She loved collecting Hummels, working in her garden and holding her great grandchildren when they would sit long enough for her.

She was active in a bowling league, enjoyed traveling to Door County and Mackinac Island as well as going to symphonies and plays with her sister. She will be remembered for her kindness, always having a smile on her face, and spending time with her family. Those Ruth leaves behind to cherish her memory include her son, Jeffrey (Peggy) Ramel of Kewaskum; two grandchildren, Josh Ramel and Sara (Justin) Weninger; two great-grandchildren, Jaxson and Harrison; a sister, Shirley Birkholz; two step-brothers, Ralph (Shirley) Koth and Kenneth (Carol) Koth; other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Ruth was preceded in death by a son, Steven Ramel. A memorial service for Ruth will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at New Horizon United Church of Christ, 9663 State Highway 144, Kewaskum, with Rev. David Schlieter officiating.

Burial of Ruth’s cremains will follow in Boltonville Union Cemetery. Ruth’s family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. The Myrhum Patten Miller & Kietzer Funeral Homes have been entrusted with Ruth’s arrangements.
