Obituary for Ruth J. Burchell Ruth J. Burchell, 84, of Minden, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2018 at Bethany Home in Minden. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 26, 2018 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden with the Rev. Donald Hunzeker and Parish Nurse Julie Schmidt officiating.

Interment will be held following services at the Minden Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at the Craig Funeral Home in Minden. Memorials in Ruth’s honor are suggested to Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden.

Craig Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Ruth Janet Burchell was born on January 23, 1934 in Wilcox to Stanley F. and Lucille M. (Lippstreu) Bergstrom. She grew up on a farm north of Wilcox and received her education in Wilcox, graduating from Wilcox High School.

On June 27, 1953, she was united in marriage to Ralph M. “Shorty” Burchell in Funk. After which, the couple lived in Minden where Ruth enjoyed raising her family and being a homemaker. Ruth was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden, the Danish Brotherhood and the Hastings Eagle’s Club.

She volunteered for the American Red Cross and delivered meals on wheels where she enjoyed visiting with those she delivered to. Her hobbies included dancing, playing the piano, singing, cooking, gardening, playing cards and Husker football. She also enjoyed spending time with family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Richard “Rick” Burchell and special friend, Kylee Brandt and Randall “Randy” Burchell, all of Kearney; daughters, Rhonda Beed and her husband Robert of Norfolk, NE and Rebecca “Becky” Bartels and her husband Warren of Aurora, CO; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Ronald Bergstrom and wife Pat and Gary Bergstrom and wife Kathy; sisters, Rose Marie Taylor and Rogene Baxter; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ralph “Shorty” Burchell; infant son, Terry Michael Burchell; brother, Merrill Bergstrom and sister, Connie Hasbrouck.
