Ruth Loraine Buegel, age 89, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2019. Ruth was born on April 19, 1929 and was the loving daughter of Ottilie and Emil Hasse and younger sister of Edna Partridge. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Ruth graduated from Denby High School and was a devoted member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and later in life at Trinity, Utica.

Ruth was a remarkably caring woman who enriched the lives of those around her with love, generosity, and her devotion to God. She could light up a room with her smile, laughter, and positive outlook on life. As a devout Lutheran, Ruth loved spending every Sunday at church singing her favorite hymns and reading the Bible in fellowship with her family and friends.

Throughout Ruth’s life, she cared for children from several families. She held these children near and dear to her heart along with the many years she spent caring for them. Ruth also had a special love for animals, country music, visiting Belle Isle and Boblo Island, and spending the day at her sister’s house with her mother and children.

Ruth put God, family, and friends at the forefront of her life. She considered herself very blessed to have a wonderful family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished every moment spent with her loved ones.

Her family will always remember her joyful heart and the way that she blessed all the lives that she touched. Ruth was the loving mother of Mark Buegel, Julie Nowicki, Gail (Dennis) Laporte, Todd Buegel, and Mary (Timothy) Laporte; proud grandmother of Sandra (Benjamin), Heather (James), Julianne, Jessica (Daniel), Jill, Megan, Lindsay, and Jacob; and dear great-grandmother of Brandon, Andrew, Carson, Kaden, and Aubrey. Ruth is predeceased by her parents, Ottilie and Emil Hasse, her sister, Edna Partridge, her brother in-law, Harry Partridge, and her son-in-law, Fred Nowicki.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 26, from 3:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 7:00 p.m. at the Wm. Sulllivan and Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Road (3 blocks East of Van Dyke, Utica. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
