Ruth’s Obituary Ruth Margaret Hoffman, age 90 of Gresham, passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2019 in Shawano surrounded by her family. Born in Gresham on June 6, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Margaret (Hartel) Schmidt, Sr. After Ruth graduated from Gresham High School in 1946, she worked at Gresham State Bank. On October 21, 1950, she was united in marriage to Vernon G. Hoffman at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Gresham.
Vernon preceded her in death on January 31, 2005. Ruth and Vernon owned and operated a dairy farm in the Town of Herman and in 1984, they were named a Century Farm. She was a great cook, enjoyed playing cards and was a Brewer fan.
She especially liked to listen to Bob Uecker. Ruth was lifelong faithful member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Gresham. She was a member of the FFA Alumni, the Gresham American Legion Auxiliary and the St. Francis CCW.
More than anything, Ruth loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruth is survived by: seven children, Mary (Ken) Herm, Margie (Steve) Kristof, Gary “Hunts” (Jennifer) Hoffman, Nancy (Randy) Ladwig, Gail Hoffman, Lori (Robbie) Buettner and Julie (Brett) Winzenried; one daughter-in-law, Gail Hoffman; grandchildren, Kelly, Keith, Chris, Jennifer, Joseph, Melissa, Brad, Mindy, Brock, Brady, Beau, Josh, Megan, Cory, Sara, Katie, Mike, Eric, Reynolds, Emily, Molly, Libby, Alec and Grant; great-grandchildren, Macie, Drake, Colten, Carsen, McKenna, Jacob, Sofia, Cristian, Gabriel, Scarlett, JoAnna, Bronson, Garen, Harper, Max, Emma, Georgia, Finley, Jackson, Cooper, Peyten, Morgan, Callie, Blake, Nash, Meredith and five more on the way. She is further survived by her brother, Louis (Jackie) Schmidt, Jr and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; her son, Vernon, Jr.; one great-granddaughter, Abigail Hoffman; her parents; and siblings, Joyce Reminger, Maxine Fehrman and Clyde Schmidt. Funeral services for Ruth will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 8, 2019 at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Gresham with Fr. Joel Jores officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery in spring. Visitation will be held at Swedberg Funeral Home in Gresham on Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00 pm with a Rosary service at 7:00 pm and again at the church on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
