Sallie Jean Poteat August 12, 1944 – February 07, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Ms. Sallie Jean Poteat, 74, passed away on February 7, 2019 at Doctors Hospital in Maryland. She was born on August 12, 1944 to the late Willie L. Poteat and Sallie Beth Stephens Poteat in Caswell County. She was married to the late Donald King.

She was raised in Caswell County. She graduated from Caswell County Training School in 1962. Upon graduation she attended and later graduated from Winston Salem State University.

She went on to New York City to become a teacher, where she taught for 35 years. After retiring, Sallie enjoyed traveling. She also loved her family dearly.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters: Cleola Blackwell, Willie Mae Howard and Mahalie Fox and one brother: Howard Poteat. She leaves to cherish her memory, one brother: Joe L. Poteat (Evelyn) of Clinton, NC; one sister: Coye B. Stewart of Milton; a loving nephew who was like a son: Malcolm Poteat (Sandra) of Blanch; a special friend: George, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, family and friends.
