Sandra E Paul Obituary Photo

Sandy Paul wife, mother, teacher and goodwill ambassador has passed on at age 95, after a life time of giving. Some people knew her as the Candy Lady of Clintonville who traveled with a basket of treats that she handed out to anyone who crossed her path. Others knew her as Mrs. Paul, the lively and devoted teacher who helped a generation of Columbus school children learn to read.

She knew sorrow in her life, but never forgot how to laugh. She was born Emma Sandra Rubino on January 14, 1923 in Lakewood, Ohio to Italian immigrants Carlo Rubino and Maria Natoli. She married Ken Paul, the love of her life, on Sept.

6, 1943. They took a bus to Cincinnati for their honeymoon, and then Mr. Paul promptly left for the service. After Mr. Paul returned from service in World War II, the couple was blessed with two sons, Craig Allen and Steven Richard.

Mrs. Paul later graduated from Ohio Wesleyan College with a degree in education. She and Mr. Paul were both educators who spent most of their careers in Columbus public schools, where she taught elementary grades and he was a principal. Decades after her retirement, she was still getting calls from former students who remembered her passionate, spirited devotion to learning.

After the Paul’s son, Craig, was shot down on a mission over Vietnam in 1972, Mrs. Paul left teaching to devote herself to working on behalf of Vietnam POWs and MIAs. Mrs. Paul was preceded in death by her parents, husband, elder son and her four siblings Carlo Jr., Rose, Ida and Tony. She is survived by her younger son, Steven; grandson, James Griffin; and several nieces and nephews.
