Obituary for Sara E. Mason Atkins Sara Ellen Mason Atkins, 83, passed away January 4, 2019 at her home. A native of Greer, she was the daughter of the late William Marshall “Runt” and Vivian Howell Mason. She was a 1953 graduate of Greer High School, where she was a majorette in the marching band.

She retired from GMAC after 40 years and was an active member of Washington Baptist Church. In the churches where her husband served as Minister of Music, Sara faithfully ministered in the preschool departments for more than 60 years. Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Hugh P. Atkins of the home; one son, Geoff Atkins (Charlene) of Moncks Corner; two daughters, Kara A. Ponder (Brent) and Susan A. Reynolds (Tim), both of Greer; one sister, Dottie Bryson of Greer; five grandchildren, Andrew M. Atkins (Tara) of Duncan, Hannah P. Nester (John) of Greer, Elizabeth R. Parris (Alex) of Greer, John Mason Reynolds and Sara Ashleigh Ponder, both of Greer; and two great-grandchildren, Mason Collins Atkins of Duncan and Beckham James Nester of Greer.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m., Sunday, January 6, 2019, at Washington Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Drew Hines and assisted by Mrs. Dottie Bryson. Burial will follow in Washington Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alex Parris, John Nester, Bobby Silver, Dr. David Sudduth, Jay Bryson, Bill Bryson and John Mason Reynolds.

Memorials may be made to Washington Baptist Church Preschool Department, 3500 N Highway 14, Greer, SC 29651. Family will be at the home. Online condolences may be made at www.
