Sarah C. Mathey Age 90, of Dover, passed away Monday July 9, 2018. She was born August 15, 1927 in Mineral City, a daughter of the late Emerson and Emma (Scarlott) Geckler and had been a resident of the Mineral City-Sandyville area most of her life. She was a retired employee of the former Sparta Ceramic Tile Co. in East Sparta.

Sarah was a wonderful cook, and baker, and also enjoyed canning. She loved spending time with her family which was the center of her life. She was a very caring and giving person and taking care of her family and extended family was most important.

Sarah enjoyed reading her Bible, The Upper Room and Beside Still Waters. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Joseph P. Mathey, on Nov. 25, 2008, a granddaughter, Jennifer Eames, and her six brothers and one sister, Maurice, John, twins David and James, Howard, and Joseph Geckler, and Bessie Dycus.

She is survived by two daughters and one son, Connie (Thomas) Bowersox, of Mineral City, Patricia (Jeff) Mathey-Frantum, of New Philadelphia, and Joseph (Jennifer) Mathey, of New Philadelphia; two step-grandchildren, Ryan and Aaron Bowersox. Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Pastor Mark Gross officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Sandyville.

Friends may call one hour before the service on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sarah’s memory may be made to the donor’s favorite charity. Condolences to the family may be made to: www.
