Obituary for Schubert William Dankers Schubert William Dankers, 105, of Naples, FL passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at his residence. He was born November 26, 1913 in Lake City, MN a son of the late William and Edla (Anderson) Dankers. He was the oldest of four children, Lavyne (Dankers) Schaefer, Marlyn Dankers and Florence (Dankers) Hantober.
Schubert grew up in Lake City where he attended elementary and high school. He was active in sports playing basketball, football and excelling in track. His senior year he set school records in the half-mile and took second in state.
Like his parents he loved music and played the trumpet in the school band and later on an excursion steamer traveling the Mississippi River between Red Wing and Winona, MN. He was also the Taps trumpeter for many burials of veterans. In May of 1936, Schubert and Wilma Wills had a daughter Darlene W. (Dankers) Kosolowski.
Schubert married Lucille Binder in 1939. In 1940, he got a summer job with Armstrong Cork Company in Lancaster, PA as janitor. By the end of that summer Schubert had a full time job.
Schubert and Lucille had a son, William G. Dankers in May 1941. When World War II broke out, Armstrong built the F4U-1 Corsair aircraft tail section and Schubert became the foreman of the aircraft department. A new Armstrong plant was to be built in Kankakee, IL and Schubert was one of three foremen selected to open the plant in 1947.
Lucille passed in 1948 and Schubert remarried in 1954 to Mable Martin. He retired in 1974. During his time in Kankakee he enjoyed boating, fishing, world travel and church.
He was a Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church and played a role in helping to organize two community organizations that still endure: the Kankakee Boat Club and the Hundred Club. Today the Hundred Club raises money for safety equipment for police and firefighters and to assist families of those workers who become injured. Schubert and Mable moved to Florida in 1976.
During his time in Naples, Schubert continued to enjoy boating, fishing, traveling as well as First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs while making new and lasting friends. Survivors include his children, Darlene W. Kosolowski of Naples, FL, William (Nancy) Dankers of Sparks, NV; sister, Florence Hantober of Lancaster, CA; 11 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; and 3 nieces and 2 nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille; brother, Marlyn; grandson, Ryan; second wife, Mable; and sister, Lavyne.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail So. , Bonita Springs, FL 34134. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service.
