Shannon Michael Sims , January 13, 1951 — November 12, 2018

On November 12, 2018, Shannon Michael Sims, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 67 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Shannon was born on January 13, 1951 to Carl and Frances (Hogan) Sims in Frankfurt, Germany. He was a 1969 graduate from Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, Maryland, and received an Associate’s Degree from Montgomery College in 1971.

That same year, Shannon joined the United States Navy and worked on submarines as an Ocean Systems Tech for four years, followed by additional service in the Naval Reserves. He spent the rest of his successful working career employed by various offshore companies as Chief Engineer on large research and supply vessels, traveling all over the world. Shannon married his high school sweetheart, Anne Elizabeth (Houyoux) Sims, in 1973.

They were married 45 years and raised two daughters, Kelly and Michelle, and several Labrador Retrievers. Shannon loved his wife, mom and dad, children and grandchildren, and was very proud of them all. He was an advocate for animals and enjoyed spending time with his dogs, Brandy, Tess and Sara.

Shannon had a great love of the ocean and was happy spending time by the water. He was also an avid music fan of an array of artists and genres. Shannon was known for his great sense of humor and light-hearted spirit.

Shannon was preceded in death by his father, Carl Cooper Sims II. He is survived by his mother, Frances (Hogan) Sims; his loving wife, Anne (Houyoux) Sims; their children, Kelly (Jamey) Faircloth and Michelle (James) Heiter; their grandchildren, Hannah and Morgan Faircloth; Jaycee Rae, Josie,and John Granger; McKinley and Zachary Heiter, and their dogs, Sara, Brandy, Tess and several cousins. Celebration of Life will be held with family and friends from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2018, at 5188 Oak Drive, Marianna, Florida, 32446.

Military honors will be presented at 2 p.m. The family is very appreciative of all condolences. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to an animal charity organization of choice.
