Shearl Savage Maynard of Draper, Utah, passed away surrounded by loved ones on October 17th, 2018. She was born April 1st, 1949, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the daughter of Charles R. and Genabud Smith Savage, sister of Gene Savage, Martha Weaver, (deceased), Lettie Kidd, and twin sister to Earl Savage (deceased). Shearl had 6 children, Rick Kemp (Heather), Celeste Gates (Johnny), Thomas Kemp (Desarae), Anthony Kemp, (Sharon), Marty Kemp (Geni), Michelle Maynard (Matt), 23 grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

Shearl was an amazingly talented woman, nothing she tried did she ever fail at. She started her younger years with tap dancing and later even taught it. She also worked at Jay Lynn Studios painting black and white.

She played drums with Horst Fiedel and the Bavarians, and was also a beautiful singer. She later turned her focus to ceramics and plasters which she sold at swiss days. She also was an amazing artist with her pride and joy painting hanging in the Gadfield Elm Chapel, even going as far as having her own art gallery.

She was gifted at crocheting and remembered watching her grandma crotchet when she was little. She sewed, knitted, quilted, made dolls, clothes, was gifted with the likes of the pioneers. You’ve never experienced a holiday until you’ve had a “Shearl Holiday Experience”.

She went to the extreme with decorations and food. Everything she made was to perfection. Thanksgiving wasn’t complete unless the silver was polished, the crystal was set and the table clothes were ironed.

Mom set a standard that no one else could reach but many tried. Mom had a great love for her ancestors and family history. She served a mission at the Joseph Smith Memorial building for 2 years.

She did many baptisms for the dead. She would spend hours and days tracking someone down and didn’t stop until she found them, even including calls around the world. She had a room in the house dedicated to Family history research.

Completed with photos covering every inch of the walls. She took family history very seriously, tracing our family back to the year 1066. She devoted the last 15 years to this sacred work.

The most devoted work she ever did, was being a mother. Nothing in this world made her feel more complete than taking care of her 6 children. When her children began having children of their own, she then became the ultimate grandmother.

She made every moment with family unforgettable. She lit up the lives of everyone who entered hers, and never hesitated to pass on her wisdom to those who needed it. Her sense of humor was explosive, and many would describe her as being a saint and a sailor.

She could party with the best of them and pray with the rest of them. HA! She will be greatly missed, but her light will live on within all of us.

She was everyone’s favorite–favorite aunt – favorite grandma, and favorite person. Growing up all her children’s friends would always comment, “Your mom is so cool! ” Viewing will be held October 22nd, at Anderson and Goff Mortuary, 11859 South 700 East, Draper, from 6 to 8 pm.

Funeral service Tuesday, October 23rd at 11 am at the Draper 7th Ward, 12300 South 600 East, with a viewing from 9:30-10:30 am.
