Shirley’s Obituary Shirley Ann Pastian was born October 30, 1934 in rural Gregory County, SD, to Harry and Ethel Diehl Pastian. She died from congestive heart failure on December 30, 2018 at the age of 84 at Bethesda Nursing Home of Beresford where she had been a resident for 4 months. She graduated from high school in Lake Preston, SD in 1952.

She attended General Beadle Teacher’s College in Madison, SD that summer and obtained a teaching certificate. She taught 1 year in rural Kingsbury County. On January 11, 1953 Shirley married Clare Thedorff at DeSmet, SD.

They resided in Lake Preston, Watertown, and Beresford and have been in the Beresford and Centerville areas since 1956. To this union, 4 children were born. Besides being a homemaker, she was a Stanley Home Products dealer and a grocery clerk.

Later in life, she enjoyed her jobs as a certified nursing assistant and child care provider. She retired as a nursing assistant in 1997 to become more active in her church, Beresford Zion United Methodist. Throughout the years, Shirley was active in Extension work, Clay County FCE Council, and Clay County Fair Board.

She also was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary of Vermillion, SD. Her hobbies were playing bingo and participating in flea markets and rummage sales. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clare, and brothers Richard and Eugene.

Those who gratefully shared her life are daughter Wanda (Chuck) Fergen of Pierre, SD; sons Ward Thedorff (Rondi Utne and family) of Sioux Falls, SD; Wade Thedorff of Yankton, SD; and Wayne Thedorff (special friend Mary Clayton) of Centerville, SD; 2 granddaughters: Bridget Thedorff of Oklahoma and Niki (Eric) Rodawig of Elkhorn, NE; 3 grandsons: Jared (Andrea) Thedorff of Summerset, SD; Brett (Mandy) Fergen of Pierre, SD; and Tyler Thedorff (fiancée Annie Staum) of Los Angeles, CA ; great-grandchildren: Owen and Cole Thedorff, Max Fergen, E.J. and Sydney Rodawig; sister Sharon (Linden) Fickbohm of Sioux Falls, SD; many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends; special friend Terri Johnson; and special families Jeff, Kay, Rob, Molly, Sam and Luke Hansen and Travis, Jill, Lacey and Kylie Mockler. Funeral services will be 11AM Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Beresford Zion United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 5-7PM Friday, Jan.

4th at the church with a prayer service at 7PM. the family requests memorials be directed to the Beresford Zion United Methodist Church.
